The Xlab Hydroblade is the latest in a long line of hydration related products. Over the last few months  I have been trialing hydration products that are reliable, easy to use, easy to access and aerodynamic . I have had many requests to review products from Xlab in the past so thought that they were the perfect company to fulfill the full brief.

XLAB is a family owned and run company based in San Diego California. Setup in 1993 the company has 25 years experience design and innovation focused on one athletes reaching their targets by increasing their aerodynamic efficiency. They have a wide range of products but they really excel when it comes to hydration and nutrition and with experience designing for leading companies such as Boeing, racing yachts and most impressively in my opinion Lockhead they know a thing or two about assessing the needs of a customer and developing top quality products. .

In the sport of Triathlon minimal gains are vital especially for elite athletes, with that in mind every Triathlete’s main focus is on improved aerodynamics, there is a variety of ways to do this; one is to replace your traditional hydration and nutrition with a more modern aerodynamic alternative. The Hydroblade is designed to sit in front of the triathlete on their aerobars.  Because of the position they are in and the design of the product they produce minimal drag. The Hydroblade allows the triathlete or cyclist the flexibility and more importantly security of hand free drinking while keeping your eyes on the road. This is done through the easy sip straw in the bottle.

The Hydroblade can be accessed very easily and refiled when on the road through the click cover that is easily opened through the pull tab. The bottle has two cap styles split cap and Torpedo clear its easy to swap between the two of them the Torpedo is wide mouth which makes it easier to drop in your electrolyte tab of choice while riding the bike. The Hydroblade was very easy to setup the secure clip bracket adjusted with some slight tweaking of a screw driver and without any real effort to fit my aerobars perfectly tightened nice and snug with two velcro straps one on each bar.

Having used this a lot of late I have been very impressed with how easy it was to setup and use. The bottle comes in two colours black and clear. It allows you to access all the hydration your likely to need for even the longest of spins. I think it’s the perfect addition for any triathlete looking to compete in any events ranging from Sprint to Iron Man distance.
