Having upgraded my car late last year to a Ford Galaxy I had been on the look out for a good quality bike rack to transport my bike and others to Triathlon events, and that can also be used to transport my family’s bikes when going on camping trips. There are many brands of bike racks out there but I always found Hollywood to have top quality bike racks at a very reasonable price and the F4 certainly continues that trend .

Hollywood Racks was set up in 1973 in California with a simple aim “We wanted to make good quality products that were easy to use and came fully assembled” They constructed trunk mounted bike racks in house and very quickly gained a reputation of supplying top quality products. They started supplying products to local bike shops in California and eventually started supplying direct to bike companies like Peugeot, who were a major bike supplier in the 80’s, my first racer was a Peugeot bought by my grandfather in the late 80’s. In 1988 Hollywood racks opened a large factory and started exporting to Europe a year later and have not looked back since with continued growth they now supply their products to 25 countries worldwide and have a great reputation of supplying top quality products at a good price.

The F4 is designed to carry 4 bikes and is a foldable tubular steel rack that is extremely sturdy and very well made. It’s designed to be used on flat-backed MPVs, but it can also fit a variety of other vehicles. The Rack is very easy to fit you may need to make some slight adjustments to the rack depending on the style of car you are fitting it to but the fitting video explains the process in detail and is a great help. The bottom support sits nicely against the back bumper of your car and you have six straps to attach and tighten to secure the bike this is what secures your bike rack to the car so you need to ensure that this is nice and tight. When putting your bike on the rack you need to ensure that the heaviest bike is located on the back of the rack. Make sure that each bike is sitting in an alternate position to the previous one. You tighten the bike with the tie down straps and once mounted test the straps again for any movement that may have happened during the process. Having used this on a variety of occasions driving on national roads and motorway I have come to realize how good a product this is you simply mount the rack on the car then the bike and once its all secured you don’t have to worry about the bike knowing its safe and secure there until you reach your destination.

It took about 10 minutes to fit the rack first time from unboxing and a lot less after that. Its a perfect fit for my Ford Galaxy and I no longer have to worry about removing all the kids seats to squeeze my bike into the boot. One word of caution when using this bike rack or any other, be careful leaving your bike on the rack after reaching your destination, while it sits on the rack it is an easy target for bike thieves. If your looking for a very good bike rack that will carry up to 4 bikes at a reasonable price the Hollywood F4 is a good choice.
