Hunt Bike wheels was established in 2014 by two brothers Tom and Peter Marchment. They had worked for several years in the bicycle industry and after struggling to track down wheelsets that met the standard they required, they took the bold step to use all the skills and knowledge they had gained working in the bicycle industry to establish their own company. They work very closely with leading companies around the globe such as Novatec for the hubs, this ensures that they provide users with some of the most technologically advanced components from the bearings and hubs to the spokes. Hunt works with the best manufacturers to create for you the perfect product.
All products are tested and developed in the UK using a combination of user feedback through social media and requests, combined with an extremely knowledgeable team within Hunt. As I mentioned earlier Hunt work with the best companies in the industry and have a wheel building partnership with Mr. Hao-Cheng a master wheel builder who himself has built many thousand wheels during his career. That matched with the rigorous QA process ensures you get a great product that has been thoroughly tested by the end of production.
The selection process, delivery, and Customer Service is always second to none. They arrived within a week of the order being placed well wrapped up with Hunt Black Shield tubeless tape fitted to wheel ready for the tires of choice to be added along with your cassette and disc breaks. During the order process you choose the axle adapters that are required for your bike by filling in their online form. Included with it was 60mm tubeless valves, spare spoke and nipples, a selection of cassette spacers and a quality control document signed by your master wheel builder; a really nice touch from Hunt Wheels. I have reached out since taking delivery with a variety of questions and I always get a very quick response. i paired my wheels with some Schwalbe 28’s on the Cannondale swapping to 32’s for that added comfort on the Defy.
This is the second set of wheels I have reviewed by Hunt and I had been looking forward for several weeks to getting my hands on them and putting them through our testing process. Unfortunately their arrival coincided with a bike crash a week before my targeted event. I broke my elbow and my jaw but the Hunt Carbon 50’s were a great incentive to get me back on the bike.
Over the last few months I have been using the HUNT 50 Carbon Disc wheel set initially on my Cannondale Synpase using quick release and then changing over to my new Giant Defy Advance 0. They are pretty light for as set of 50’s coming in at 1465g for the pair. The Wheels are optimized for 25 to 35mm tires; work well with 25mm up to 50mm. As I write this I am running them with the Schwalbe Pro one 32’s but as the Defy has clearance up to 38 I plan on testing that out in the near future.

HUNT 50 Carbon Disc wheel’s are built for speed and are aimed at any rider who enjoys cycling on gravel, the road or crit. The components used in these are top quality including stainless steel cartridge bearings with proprietary waterproof grease in Ireland and across the UK rain bad weather where torrential rain is a regular occurrence so this really helps keep your bike running well.
The wheels have 24 spokes front and back with a really nice 2 cross lacing pattern. The spokes have a narrower gauge in the front wheel and slightly thicker gauge on the back all aimed at increasing power transfer and making you a faster cyclist. The Deep U shape carbon profile has had great results in the wind tunnels and based off my testing HUNT 50 Carbon Disc stack up really well against the very best wheel sets out there for a fraction of the price.
When I returned to the bike after my accident I was very nervous and at the start held back an awful lot especially descents, but gradually, as my confidence returned, I quickly realized how good these wheels really were. The HUNT 50 Carbon Disc are really responsive, picking up and holding your speed was so much easier, cornering was a dream, living in Ireland we get a lot of wind but I have never had any issues with cross winds grabbing the wheel.
The HUNT 50 Carbon Disc have provided me with huge upgrade on my Giant Defy and made cycling it so much fun when paired with the Schwalbe Pro One 32’s. I have had rain, wind and on occasion some sunny rides on this wheel set and they have stood up to any conditions that have been thrown. They truly come into their own when being run on flat or undulating roads but can equally handle those hilly climbs which is a great benefit as we have plenty of hilly roads in my area. I highly recommend the HUNT 50 Carbon Disc wheels for any cyclist who is looking to upgrade their cycling experience and I promise you they are worth the wait.
