SILCA is one of the most recognized brands in the cycling market and has been for many years. The company was established by Felice Sacchi in 1917 in a suburb of Milan in Italy, they have a proud tradition of innovation and are responsible for the addition of gauges on pumps. They were the first to introduce lightweight plastics into their products and the creators of the first true high pressure frame pump. They are big fans of designing and producing products to last a lifetime and introduced wooden handles to many products in their range. They take product sustainability very seriously and sell many spare parts for their products dating back as far as the 60’s.
Joshua Poertner Purchased the company in 2013 with a desire to “rebuild this iconic brand to be the industry leader in this category” In 2014 they moved manufacturing to Indianapolis, Indiana. Silca continue to this day to use the finest materials and craftsmanship available to build their products.
The Pocket Impero II mini-pump is the ultimate mini pump and a great addition to any cyclists kit. It is very light at 155g at a length of 8 inches it sits perfectly in my jersey pocket. The Impero is built to last with its full alloy construction. It looks great with the two contrasting colours and silicone sleeve that provides two functions for improved grip and a handle lock. The Pocket Impero II has a red adonised pump head and is designed to work with a Presta valve.
During our testing process we paired the Pocket Impero II mini-pump with two sets of Schwalbe Pro tyres 28 and 32 mm, Optimum pressure was reached on each of these with minimal effort . The 32’s 55 PSI in 200 strokes and the 28’s 250. During the testing process we did not have any issues with the pump causing overheating, something that I have experienced in the past with other brands. The build quality of the Pocket Impero II is top quality and not something I have experienced before. It is expensive for sure at €120 but it is built to last, it can be serviced and Silca provide a really good warranty package on all their products. I highly recommend the Silca Pocket Impero II
